Customized reading programs for underserved communities
Held each summer in Halifax, Montreal, Toronto, Thunder Bay, Winnipeg and Vancouver, TD Summer Reading Tents is a great way to get kids reading all summer long. These tents give kids and their caregivers an opportunity to sit back and read a books in parks and at community events such as Toronto’s TD Salsa on St. Clair and a ceremonial pow-wow at the Marymound Family Day. Although these tents are for reading, they feature games, storytelling, arts and more to create an engaging experience for kids.
A program of Frontier College, reading tents help reduce summer reading loss by keeping kids active and engaged when they are off from school. Reading during the summer months improves literacy skills and has proven to reduce the likelihood of experiencing poverty, poor health and unemployment.
Frontier College is Canada’s original literacy organization where programs are offered to children, youth and adults free of charge. For more information on Frontier College’s programs and the TD Summer Tents, visit Frontier College’s Programs Near You.
